ジョージ・ブールの名言
イギリスの数学者、論理学者。イギリスのリンカンシャー地方にて靴職人の子として生まれる。教育熱心な父に学び、私立学校の教師となった。独学で数学を習得し、数学誌等に多くの寄稿を行った。その大著『論理と確率の数学的な理論の基礎になる思考の法則の研究』において、０，１の真偽値に基づく論理計算の場としての「ブール代数」の体系を考案、後のコンピュータ科学に大きく貢献した。当該著作を見たラッセルは、純粋数学を発見したのはブールであるとの賛辞を呈している。
